LUL/Tubelines

Omnicom Engineering Limited has enjoyed a long history of association and collaboration with London Underground Limited and Tube Lines Limited, both part of Transport for London.

In 1998, Omnicom Engineering Limited conducted a series of successful trials with Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) for London Underground Limited on the Northern Line. These trials provided the basis for the subsequent major test-run on the Northern Line in July 2004 in which a full set of monitoring equipment was fitted to a London Underground Limited train and the whole line surveyed from Edgware to Morden in just 4 hours.

In August 2005, these tests were repeated for Tube Lines Limited on the Piccadilly Line between Cockfosters and Heathrow and on the Uxbridge Branch. The tests confirmed that below ground geo-referencing solutions can be developed and that effective camera inspection of track and infrastructure could therefore be carried out.

  • the Harrods departmental store name displayed on the Knightsbridge platform tunnel headwall

Omnicom Engineering Limited also demonstrated during the Piccadilly trial the quick turnaround of survey data for immediate access and use by Tube Lines Limited staff.
